Exactly 30 anniversary since the first Toy Story movie debuted, establishing Pixar as a major animation studio and introducing audiences to beloved figures like Woody (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now household names.
In 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, providing a brief look into the storyline but keeping fans curious how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.
In the teaser shows Bonnie — who inherited the toy collection when he left for college — receiving a latest plaything, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She acquires her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.
Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the characters seem to view it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it probably is.
One thing the teaser doesn't touch on is what the sheriff is returned with his companions in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a new adventure with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), journeying with a carnival and helping giveaway items find good homes.
Certainly, Pixar will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him show up in Bonnie's room without warning is a little strange, however. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have come back with him. And where is Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?
At the very least, some elements are carrying over from the earlier movie. The final act Woody did before setting off for his new life was pass his symbol of authority to Jessie (the voice actor), entrusting her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip shows the badge attached to her shirt.
Hopefully she is still the key figure among the group.
